The
Hatch Shell bandstand is the dominant feature of Boston's Esplanade
Park, a beautiful stretch of lakes, bridges, playgrounds and footpaths
that traverse the
Charles River Basin. There one can find a parade of joggers, cyclers and inline
skaters by land, and sail boats, windsurfing and sculls plying the
water by sea (or river). Best known as the venue for the grand July 4 performance
by the Boston Pops,
the Hatch Shell is also the site of performances with far less pomp
and pageantry: Friday Night Flicks, umpteen dance,
pop, rock and jazz concerts, and other fair-weather events.
Boston's Esplanade and Hatch Shell offers visitors and residents
alike an ideal setting for
recreational activities or perhaps just a picnic along the Charles
accompanied by some classical music
